Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is what all online marketers work for to be making money online. It is the method of increasing the amount of traffic you get to a website by ranking high in the search results of a search engine.
The higher a website ranks in the results of a search, the higher the chance that site will be have visitors. When you search for a product and you tap in your keyword, the first page to come up, page one is the page you will scour first. This is common sense. And so this is why everyone tries their utmost through SEO to get their website ranked higher and higher.
Search engine optimisation, SEO is not a quick method of marketing for your website business. Rather you will have to put in some good solid, hard work to get you started. SEO is not a short cut to riches.
You have possibly heard the saying, "content is king" where the content is actual information regarding your website. But this is not just any old
content you found written by someone else ten years ago. It cannot and must not be this. As I research different marketing strategies I always find myself coming back to the same basic rules and principles which never change. Content needs to be fresh, relevant and up to date. Without these your content will certainly not be deemed fit for ranking by the search engines, and if you copy word for word content from other sites and continue in this then you will most definitely be barred by those same search engines. This may be the most important part of your business activity you need to do if you want to be found on the internet - have good quality, fresh, relevant and up to date content.
There's a lot of competition out there don't forget, with up to eighty six per cent of websites found through search engines.
Keywords are mandatory for people to find your website business and though it may sound obvious to some, the best places to put those keywords are page titles, headings, as links, in bold text, maybe the first twenty five words of a page, in the url address and so the list could go on.
The search engines continuously scour the internet for pages to index and so your web pages need to be totally accessible to these search engines. They don't like links which are accessible only through frames, Javascript and image maps. They have problems with overly long pages and overly short pages and also with flash pages.
Inbound links to a website play a significant role in determining it's position in the search engines and it's not just the quantity of the links but also the quality and click-through-rate of the links to your website which is of huge importance. The links themselves need to be relevant and applicable to your website, not irrelevant and obscure. Link building then is a major player therefore in optimisation, be they links from other websites, content pages or blogs etc. Be sure you don't arrange to have a sudden surge of links to your website as this is considered bad practice. The process of link building should be a gradual, slow process.
Link popularity is essential for optimisation. More links to your website tells the search engines that it is important, and so the more links you get the more important your website is considered. Furthermore it's not just any old link that will do. You need relevant links from important sites which include your keyword, links which come from a page which links to other sites also etc.
Use appropriate words on your website.
Have as many applicable sites as possible link to yours.
In those links, use apt words.
Write lots of relevant, fresh content and do it regularly.
That is it and it always boils down to quality, relevant, fresh and up to date content all the time.
You can see that much of SEO is basic common sense and don't forget that you must make all that you do relevant and fresh in order to be helping your website obtain a better and higher search engine ranking. Then you will be making money on the internet.
Seo therefore means everything must be relevant, fresh and up to date and if you use common sense you will get that higher ranking you need for good business.
